The Cavers
The musical connection between Alan Hugo and Patrick Unternährer goes back to their first guitar lessons with the same music teacher, followed by their first bands, skate sessions and first adventures on the road together. Having been close friends since their school days, they have a deep understanding of each other’s songwriting.
Most of the songs on Now Swim were written in times of pandemic, partly produced by the band itself and in collaboration with Philippe Laffer at Alterna Recording Studios in Basel. "We were forced to have more freedom due to the pandemic", says Patrick. The production was entirely subject to the rhythm of the pandemic – Dates were postponed, people dropped out, bassist Lia Low regrettably took leave to devote herself to new projects, but this also made room for a new member. Besides drummer Julien Pinheiro, Fabian Kraus joined the band as the new bass player. Together, as The Cavers, they explore the depths and follow the traces of life. Just like cave explorers, sometimes determined, sometimes aimless, but always curious.
Even before professional recordings were even released, The Cavers were able to perform with their demo tape "Before the tide pulls us in" (2017) at various openairs, such as the Gurtenfestival, Openair St. Gallen or Moon and Stars Locarno. Their demo songs were also played by SRF on radio and television as well as by other radio stations. The EP "Down a Mountain" (2018) continued the previous run in the German, French as well as Italian speaking part of Switzerland: Support shows for acts like Canada's Current Swell or The Gardener & The Tree, as well as other festivals, such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Seaside Festival or the Locarno Film Festival.
